Long Walk to Water

My class just finished the book Long Walk to Water.

I really liked the book. It was really interesting with two different stories.

One part of the book I loved was when Salva was reunited with his father after 19 years.

I couldn't believe that Salva met up with Nya at the end of the book, and how the 2 stories combined.

I think the theme of this book is to never give up, because when Salva was walking through the desert he didn't give up. He finished walking through the desert. He made it through Uncle's and Marial's death and didn't give up. He ended up with a family in America and was able to reunite with his father because he didn't give up.

Smoking should be banned

Did you know that smoking causes one in every five deaths in the U.S. every year? Smoking and tobacco should be illegal for many reasons including that it is bad for you and expensive.
First, smoking is extremely unhealthy. Some examples of smoking being unhealthy are that every cigarette you smoke damages your breathing and scars your lungs, smoking cigarettes is the number-one risk factor for lung cancer, the chemicals in tobacco smoke harm your blood cells and damage the function of your heart, and recent studies show a direct relationship between tobacco use and decreased bone density. Smoking is very bad for you and these reasons are just a fraction of why smoking should be banned.
Next, smoking is very expensive. Smoking can not only ruin your health, it can also burn a hole through your wallet. If you smoke a pack a day that is $160 a week and about $8,500 a year. Imagine how much people could save if they banned smoking. The median weekly wages for men are $927 and for women $758 and if you smoke, $160 is wasted on cigarettes. Smoking is literally burning your money away. Not only is buying cigarettes expensive, but medical bills from illnesses from smoking can be expensive. Every year, Americans collectively spend more than $300 billion, which includes nearly $170 billion in direct medical care for adults and more than $156 billion in lost productivity due to premature death and exposure to secondhand smoke.
I know many will say smoking only affects the one who is doing it, but it is affecting everyone around them. Secondhand smoke (SHS) is a mixture of two smokes: mainstream smoke, which is the smoke that the smoker exhales, and sidestream smoke, which comes off of the cigarette or pipe. When non-smokers are exposed to secondhand smoke it’s called passive smoking. Non-smokers who breathe in SHS take in nicotine and toxic chemicals the same way smokers do. The more SHS you breathe, the higher the levels of these harmful chemicals in your body.
In conclusion, there are many reasons why smoking is bad for you, expensive, and bad for others. Smoking should be banned for these reasons. Without smoking or tobacco the world will be a better place.

Rhetorical Question: Have you ever thought that smoking or tobacco should be banned?

An anecdote: One time I was walking to my car and I smelled this horrible stench. It was someone smoking. I got in my car and the stench was in my car. It smelled horrible. Smoking should be banned.

Hello World!

I am Dylan, a 7th grader who has never blogged before. My teacher, Mr. Croy, wants us to write a blog. I have never written a blog, but my teacher has. He likes technology and blogs about technology. I don't know what I would blog about, but I will probably blog about football, wrestling, and school.
